Country Expects Record Flight Arrivals
Following the recent request of eight airlines to schedule about 90 flights per week, the country predicts a record number of commercial flights arriving during the end of the year.It is estimated that these flights would be carrying some 11, 000 new visitors.
Airlines have included Costa Rica in their itineraries and have increased their number of flights because of the growing passenger demand for the country.
The prestige that the country has gained as a tourist destination and more recently as a center of health investments has made airlines expand their range of flights to the country.
The tourism industry expects such a boom in the arrival of airlines to increase visitation and thus allow a surge in domestic tourism, a sector that has been hit by the economic crisis.Most commercial flights requested by airlines are for Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia.
Juan Santamaria Airport will also receive a good portion of these flights.Americans' preference for the country remains a constant. United-Continental merger has requested an increase in the number of flights by adding 48 flights a week. Among others, they will launch a daily flight between Newark, New Jersey, and Liberia Airport.
Houston and Chicago will be other new routes with flights to Liberia.
American Airlines will open a new route from San Jose to New York with seven flights per week.
It also plans to operate additional flights to Miami.In Liberia, American Airlines will operate eight flights a week from Miami and an additional one to Dallas.
Delta Air Lines will operate seven flights from San Jose to Atlanta and will open one flight between Minneapolis and Liberia every seven days.Jet Blue will fly from New York to Liberia at the end of this year and beginning of the next.
Air Berlin will have a flight from Berlin, Germany with a stopover in Cancun every two weeks.
