Six Companies are bidding on the Construction of Veintisiete de Abril-Villarreal Track
• Planned investment is for $10 million (¢5.095 million).
The Ministry of Public Works reported that six companies are interested in building the road between 27 de abril and Villarreal, in the canton of Santa Cruz. This important road has been long-awaited by the inhabitants of coastal areas and especially by the areas of Tamarindo, Langosta, Avellanas, Pinilla, Cañafistula, and Villarreal, among others.
The six participants aim to win the bid to change such an important route from a dirt road to a paved one.
The National Authority on Roads (Conavi, for its acronym in Spanish) confirmed to be analyzing the proposals of the six bidders for the long-awaited process of construction of Route 152. The planned investment for this project, crucial for the development of tourism and trade, is of $10 million (¢ 5.095 million). The work includes the paving of 13.5km, demarcation work and the horizontal and vertical sign posting.
In previous editions, Tamarindo News reported that the route is going to have two lanes. Since the blueprints have been donated by a group of local businessmen, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Francisco Jiménez, estimates that the works will be starting in the beginnings of 2012, at the latest.
The project will include sidewalks, demarcation and 9cm rolled pavement and a 20cm wide stabilized base. Furthermore, 5 existing bridges (Sin Nombre, Molina, Marcos, Puente Hernandez and the bridge over San Francisco River) will be replaced. The company winning the bid will start the works in Soncoyo River, in 27 de Abril and will continue toward Villarreal de Santa Cruz.
"As part of the road safety component, we have also incorporated the construction of sidewalks, bus bays and a cycle path along the entire project, since we know that this means of transportation is widely used in the area," said Carlos Acosta, Conavi’s Director.
The storm water evacuation system will significantly improve. The current one is not adequate; it causes overflows over the road and affects not only surrounding properties but also vehicular and pedestrian circulation.
Santa Cruz-Veintisiete de Abril Tamarindo News has verified that the Santa Cruz track is currently being repaved (substitution of the asphalt layer for a new one) by CONAVI and Hernan Solis Construction Company. We will keep you informed on this important public investment in future publications.
