Papaya con Leche Fashion Show
The rainy season comes for fashion as well: "Let it rain, water is life"
On Saturday, May 9, the exclusive clothing brand Papaya Con Leche surprised us again with a spectacular fashion show.
The entry cost 5000 colones and it was used to help the association CEPIA (Culture, Education and Psychology for Infants and Adolescents). For the owner of Papaya con Leche, Katalin Kis (Kata), the show was a success, just as the other runways she has organized before. The attendees felt the same. And what about the decor, music and the models on the runway?!
Papaya con Leche has been operating for ten years, offering its own productions. The brand is already widely known for its TRASHION FASHION SHOW (recyclable materials applied to clothing).
On this occasion, Kata presented her new collection of swimwear and apparel designed exclusively for the 2009 winter line. In a brief interview, she told us about this experience.
TN: How was the show? How did you live it?
KATA: I loved the result and I think people enjoyed it a lot, too. I am always calm during the shows because we prepare everything in advance and work with very responsible and very talented people, so there is not much that could fail. I believe very much in enjoying the process. At the end, all the vibes create the perfect environment.
TN: What do you think about those who supported you?
Kata: They were all great, super dedicated and professional. The girls with whom I am working with, together with my manager Cristina Azqueta, were all fantastic. Cristina is the one who keeps the store to perfection (not an easy task) and lets me focus on the creative department. The girls in the creative department have been working with me for many years. They keep up with my follies without doubting. I am super grateful for this because life has given me that chance of having no boundaries with my designs. There is something new every day.
TN: I imagine that the organization was difficult ... Do you think that you have the experience and the support necessary?
Kata: Well, it's always a puzzle at first, but each piece we place looks much better at the end
TN: What were the objectives of this show? Were they met?
Kata: The main objective was to cheer up the people before the winter and raise awareness on the fact that even if we are still experiencing a difficult time, we could always find joy together... Let it rain, water is life.
TN: What do you think about having this type of events in Tamarindo?
Kata: Three years ago, after the first show we did in Tamarindo, I noticed that Tamarindo needs much more sun and surf. We need more art, music bands, dance, and theater. They could also "Save" Tamarindo and divert energy more constructively.
TN: As to fashion, is it difficult to introduce trend changes in a place like Tamarindo?
Kata: I feel that the Tamarindo audience (the locals) is very receptive to the avant-garde styles. In fact, many of them are cosmopolitan. Many dresses were already sold.
TN: What made this event different? What was that special spice?
Kata: It was a more theatrical show. It had a story (waiting for the rain) and the performance of the acrobats Daniela and Verónica definitely gave the show a WOW factor.
TN: When will the next parade take place?
Kata: Next Saturday ... jajaja! In about 3 months.
TN: You are stickler for details and hardworking. Do you get nervous before a show?
Kata: No, not at all! Everybody knows that I am super calm. If something happens at the runway, it really does not have many consequences. I might just kill the person responsible… jajaja! No, Pura Vida! There are no nerves at all, only strong emotions.
TN: In Tamarindo, we are daily hearing things about the crisis, has it affected you?
Kata: It has affected everyone. We are still struggling to move forward. But everyone knows that every cloud has a silver lining.
That is how Kata briefly told us about her experience and shared her optimism for the rainy season. Now you know there are two options. You could check your closets to see what to wear or go to Papaya con Leche store and request something custom made and stylish for you, meet Kata and walk around Tamarindo as if you were walking in a runway.
