Home School Beach Academy a personalized education
After two successful years of operation, HomeSchool Beach Academy began last August 16th its third academic year. The school located in La Josefina, Huacas area is open for students from grades pre-k-12th of ages 3-17. HSBA is unique as it is the only institution that provides individualized attention and teaching methodologies for its students; this means that the student is not force to move at the pace that the rest of the classroom follows. “The teachers will work with the student in a way that those individual academic needs are being covered; consequently this type of education allows the student to grow academically at its own pace and accordingly to his/her specific academic level” said Estefania Pihen from HSBA. “ In the same way if your child has a higher grade level for a specific class, then our highly experienced tutors will customize the student's program for that class in order to expose him/her to more challenging topics” she added. HSBA works with small classroom allowing the teacher to make real and close connections with their students, therefore every aspect of child's learning, behavioral and social personality will be taken into account in the teaching process. “As each child is different and unique in the way he/she learns, process and retains information, customizing the teaching methodologies accordingly to these aspects gives our students the chance to actually learn according to their academic abilities” she explained. The school also features 2000 sq.m of nature and outdoor gardens, playground area, separate high school and elementary cafeteria areas, swimming pool, computer lab, soccer field, in-class student libraries and spacious classrooms with private bathrooms. According to Estefania Pihen, HSBA works as an official extension school of a private Washington based elementary and high school institution; therefore, students receive a US diploma, accredited by the Washington Department of Education. This international diploma is accepted by a broad group of primary and secondary institutions in the country, as well as by public and private universities in Costa Rica and many international superior education institutions such as: Harvard Business School, Berkeley University, University of Tokio and the University of Paris amongst many others. HSBA's first group of graduates from high school include students that have been successfully accepted in elite schools such as Michigan Tech and national private colleges. Currently the school is undergoing the process to obtain the MEP accreditation (Ministerio de Educacion) in order to provide a double accreditation to the students. The school offers a curriculum in English for all subjects including Science, Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies, as well as Spanish and Costa Rica Social Studies as part of the core subjects. The students also receive PE, Computer class, Photography, Art, Russian (currently) and French and Mandarin (beginning in December 2011), Robotics, Forensic Science, Cooking classes and Permaculture. For more information contact GEAproject@gmail.com, www.homeschoolbeachacademycostarica.com, homeschoolbeach@gmail.com.
